Tunisia is one of the most consistent African World Cup participants and will be back in 2026 under manager Sami Trabelsi. Group F, which includes the Netherlands and Japan, is a tough challenge, but Tunisia is known for its fighting spirit.
Tunisia's goalkeepers at the 2026 FIFA World Cup
Manager Sabri Lamouchi has named three goalkeepers for the Eagles: Aymen Dahmen, Sabri Ben Hessen and Abdelmouhib Chamakh. All three play in Tunisia’s Ligue Professionnelle 1 – a trio of goalkeepers who rely entirely on domestic club football, thereby deliberately setting themselves apart from many other African nations.
Dahmen, 29 years old and born in Sfax, has been a mainstay in the Tunisian goal since making his senior international debut in March 2021. He has remained loyal to CS Sfaxien – one of Tunisia’s most historic clubs – for almost his entire career. Only a spell with Saudi Arabian side Al-Hazem during the 2023/24 season interrupted his association with his home club, before he returned in the summer of 2024. Dahmen was the Eagles’ first-choice goalkeeper throughout the World Cup qualifiers and guided his team through the group stage as a calm, clear-headed presence between the posts. Standing at 188 cm, with a solid command of his area and extensive experience at the top level in Africa, he is Lamouchi’s clear first choice. The 2026 World Cup is his first major tournament ever – although he was in the squad for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations, he did not feature.

Ben Hessen, aged 29, is, like Dahmen, a product of CS Sfaxien, where he has been since 2013 and won the Coupe de Tunisie three times. In August 2025, he moved to Étoile du Sahel, signing a three-year contract. What makes him special is that, despite years of experience and squad call-ups for the 2025 AFCON, he did not make his official international debut until 28 March 2026 – in a 1-0 friendly win against Haiti. Ben Hessen is the reliable second choice behind Dahmen and brings the league experience of a man who knows Tunisian club football from the inside like few others.

Chamakh, aged 24, is the most surprising selection in the Tunisian squad – and he has earned it. Since joining Club Africain in the summer of 2025, he has been the first-choice goalkeeper and led the club to the 2025/26 Tunisian league title. He made his international debut on 31 March 2026 in a goalless friendly against Canada, where he put in a strong performance with a Sofascore rating of 8. The World Cup is the next logical step for the young keeper from Médenine – and a stage he has earned for himself through consistent club performances.
